Realtime Reporting
The Realtime Theory

The prospective court reporting student should choose a court reporting training program developed specifically for court reporting homestudy training, and with a state-of-the-art, modern, realtime court reporting theory, preferably with a broadcast (closed) captioning  foundation, as well as a court reporting foundation. Court Reporting Theory is the most important component of your training. Theory is learning how to write on the steno machine, and is interrelated with the court reporting software that translates the court reporters steno notes (that the court reporters and captioners write) into English that everyone can read. Court Reporting  Theories of the past, most of which are still taught today, literally can take a year or longer to learn. One new theory, the NCRA approved "Realtime Reporting and Captioning Theory" has revolutionized theory training, and can be learned in as little as a few weeks, moving the court reporting student into speedbuilding more quickly which allows the court reporting student to completing his training much faster.

This new revolutionary, court reporting theory was developed by one of the leading court reporters and court reporting educators in the country, and is changing the way court reporting and closed captioning is being taught. This method of self paced court reporting homestudy has enjoyed great success, and should be researched by anyone considering training for the careers of court reporting, broadcast closed captioning, or CART providing.   The Realtime Steno Machine
The steno
machine court reporter using a computerized stenograph machine is the most accurate of any method, writing verbatim at speeds of 225 words per minute and faster. Though some schools are promoting  voice recognition software, our surveys of national closed captioning companies indicate few if any are employing the voice recognition method as the accuracy is far from the required accuracy a realtime reporter or closed captioner can provide. Our studies indicate voice recognition will not be a viable realtime profession any time in the  forseeable future, if ever.
